Daffar-Toulys ECOSO Toolkit

The Bosena Rainbow Memo is a holistic reinvention of the standard production Green memo, designed to highlight the need for respect and inclusion for people, sustainable circular thinking, and a holistic approach to making production more planet and people friendly.

Bosena Rainbow Memo

The Ecosophical Principles of Production (ECOPOP) template is a tool we use in development and early pre-production. We believe the choices we make regarding content and form are intrinsically interwoven with the way we approach production. By stepping lightly in our actions, we can strengthen the natural and social ecologies in which we exist.

These tools are freely available under a Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike 4.0 license, and we’re pleased to see many other UK studios and production companies adopting them for their own productions.

Our Impacts

We will continue to redefine and refine our data and insights as we grow. Our actions impact:

  • people and communities who work with us and who engage with our work
  • energy, materials and waste generated through research and development, production and sales activities, e.g. energy consumption for our computing and data storage, offices and production bases, and resources used for physical production
  • travel and accommodation systems
  • the Cornish economy – we are committed to purchasing core products and services locally to Cornwall (at least 50% of non-labour expenses)

We utilise these data and insights to design regenerative pipelines and workflows, utilsing:

  • B Impact Assessment to measure our impact on our workers, community, environment, and customers
  • albert carbon footprint calculator and action planning tools to measure the carbon impact of our productions, improve our own practices and share our learning with others.
  • Julie’s Bicycle carbon footprint calculator to measure the Co2e impact of our core business
  • BFI aligned equality and diversity monitoring to help identify and remedy unconscious bias
  • our own evolving ECOSO toolkit

The study was commissioned from Bosena CEO Denzil Monk working with Falmouth University by Cornwall Council in 2019 to investigate potential business and development models for Cornish Public Service Media; responding to the current status and future developments of minority language public service broadcasting in the context of significant changes in viewing trends and technology.
